Tis For My Sister

Hmm .. my sister has been pestering me to make a bag for her too, and no its not for her school. Shes an adult working/career woman.

"I want a picture of elephant .. from behind ... and I want it to read "my lunch bag"" .

I think this bag is not the actual size she wants ... that big bag incident does not really help .. anything smaller than the big bag is considered "small" to me ... so you see if the big bag can hold all my mother's telekung tilam bantal periuk belanga, I think .. this bag might still have the capacity to carry not only my sister's lunch but her breakfast and dinner and supper as well. tsk .. I should learn how to make things small, small .. small ..... small.. small ...small.. small (hahaha berlatih zikir)

anyways,
I just hope she likes it

and even if she doesnt I might give it away here ...

( i really hope to have my own giveaway too like what Tini and the others have been doing
it ll be fun kan seeing all the comments flushing in...)

:-)

and even if its not the bag .. i ll make sure insyaAllah it ll be something or things you will all love to win

happy friday y'all !

I Just Made The Biggest Bag Ever

I followed the book exactly and it turned out to be so BIG.

Its for my mother. She saw the bag in the book and specially requested me to make one for her. I should have known better when none of the fabrics I have were enough to make one .. so my mother personally went hunting for the fabrics ...

so you see ... my mother must mean business

Its supposed to be a shopping bag but my mother is already dreaming to make the bag for her "telekung" (she hasnt seen it yet) .... but from the look of it,  I think, not even the telekung .. it can also fit sajadah, kain ihram, tilam bantal, pinggan mangkuk periuk belanga and even the whole of her closet ......

hey .. look it can also fit THREE of my cushions !!!

happy mother's day Mak

A Poem I Found

FOOT NOTE

This foot was made for walking.
But not on my machine!
It turns out the weirdest quilting
That I have ever seen!
It sews along quilte nicely,
I stop holding my breath,
Then it does a little dance step
And scares me half to death!
I see a section of stitches
Too small for ripping out,
Then a leap and then a skip --
What is this all about?
A seam on top? The batting?
Am I doing something wrong?
I didn't dream that machine quilting
Would ever take this long.
The answer's out there somewhere,
I'll seek till I understand,
But until I get it sorted out
I just must quilt by hand!

Adakah Jack The Ripper Asalnya Seorang Pentetas Kain Sebab Beliau Selalu Jahit Salah ?

Salam bahagia semua.

I finally finished my cushion cover . I know that the color combination is a bit off (sorry Sis and Kak Diah ..) but since I cant afford to be "Ann the Ripper", I thought I might as well proceed and learn along the way and revise the lesson. I tried a few new things and I had quite a hard time .... but I m glad I tried them because next time around I should know what to expect and how to go about it.

Oh ya before I proceed further I have to tell you the reason why I was so determined to learn how to sew is because I just could not stand the overly priced cushion cover at Laura Ashley. Do you know that one piece of cushion cover cost more than RM200 ! Its crazy kan ..... and tonite I know I will soon one day Insya Allah give a run for their money ..... ha ha ha. Gila perasan kan ....

Alalalalalala ......

I say ..... my partner, my sister and Kak Diah think that the red checked fabric in the middle and the corners of the quilt I made is out of place ... Kak Diah even suggested that I should put something dark next to it to match the red checked.

Nak kena tetaih pulak dahhh

Thanks Kak Diah and Sister for your opinions. My sister is just happy that Kak Diah has the same taste as her.

:-P

ps: Feels like going home and make another one .... now ... ya... thats how intense and passionate I can be or in other word "gila".

:-D

What I Was Up To

Hello everybody ! Hows your weekend .. ? Did you have a good time ? Did you get to finish your projects ? What did you have for lunch and dinner ? Have you watched that movie and get the tips on how to train your dragon... ? . .. hmmm ....

Allow me to rumble mumble as it is now very late at night and here I am typing away the latest entry from my so-called-craft-room.

As you should know I attended my first quilt class last Saturday with the Pondok Craft team to learn how to make a cushion cover. Its the first time I got the taste on what its like to patch and quilt. I am so indebted to Kak Dida for being so patient with me and also to my good friend Sri's never ending support because I know I am a very difficult student. I am intense ... impatient ... clumsy ... demanding at times and I can be very irritating too ( the type of pupil you dont really want in your class but someone you d miss when shes not around ...hahahaha).

And you know what ...... right away the next day, I made this :-

It s not finished yet but I m sure Kak Dida would be happy to see it.

This is the part I hate most, where you have to take off the "foundation". I even thought it should be ok if I just skip the ripping off the foundation part but then as I started to quilt .. I could feel the and hear the paper underneath. tsk !

And oh yeah ... I am a huge fan of the seam ripper. Even though it sure helps me a lot but most of the times I dont really trust my clumsy hand .. so my good angelic friend Sri is on the rescue this time .. such gentle hands she has ..

Ok. Thats all for tonite . Until the next entry .. we ll see insya Allah if I get to finish what I have started .....

Ciao ....

Kesempurnaan Bukanlah Milik Kita Semua

"Bersyukurlah dengan apa yang ada" kata Dato' Siti

Kalau dah boleh jahit begini ....

cukuplah tengok sekali saja ...

tak payah lah belek lama-lama

atau perbesarkan gambar

Lagikan hidup pun tak sempurna, inikan pula jahitan aku

"Ohh.. Tuhan ... Anak /Cucu aku dah pandai pegang jarum"

Amy Karol Says Bend The Rules NOT Break The Rules And Definitely Not Break The Needles

I bought the book because I felt I can relate to Amy. Actually yes, I am happy that she does recognize the ups and downs of those beginners ... like me ! I like the way she writes which is casual and witty.

But I do find, though, that her instructions are quite confusing , but to give her the benefit of the doubt, I think it was I who s actually confused ... hahaha seriously I had a very tough time figuring how to make this "Artsy Clutch" at paragraph 3. Mind you there are only FOUR paragraphs.

See the uneven placing of the cording

I read and read and reread for a hundred times, literally.. seriously ... until I finally figured out what she actually means. I even started to have doubt in my English comprehension and also the ability to understand instructions (yes I always have issues with instructions). With one broken needle, one exhausted calcium-deficit lady (my back my back) and one sleepy faithful cat I finally finished the project albeit a very unattractive design (unlike the fabric painting as suggested by the book)

It was really a mess and thank god to the seam ripper I just bought ... and thank God too that the fabrics I used were the cheap ones, like the RM3.80 fabric and one kain pelikat I hope my father wont find missing ... hahaha.

Ohh I heart You Amy Karol

Kain Pentutup Mesin Jahit ! (Baca Macam Doraemon)

Front

Back

Sudah sampai masanya aku berubah dari potholder ke satu bentuk kerastangan yang lain. Larat ka asyik buat potholder hari-hari ....

I have seen this type of cover in a Flickr! but I have forgotten from whose account. I kept thinking of it because I thought it wouldnt be difficult for me to do... hmm. The cover I saw in the Flickr I think was a quilt. But as quilt is not really my game .. so I just skipped the batting part.

I am very much ignorant about fabric but the one I used as the canvas was a cheap material of RM3.80 per meter and for the back I used the on sale polka dot cotton fabric from Kamdar .... (tsk what a way to describe a fabric)

Thats my cat Popo

I hope my photos have spoken the volume of work I had put into it ..... because as I am typing this entry I am already starting to feel very exhausted and a little bit dizzy. This project seemed like a never ending process at the expense of my sleep. The machine and I are still in the getting to know phase and like taming a wild horse, maybe I should give her more apples....

The overall look

This the reason why my cover comes in handy

Nota Penting: Dengan nada serius saya katakan "Sila abaikan jahitan lintang pukang .... "

Jangan Tunjuk Pada Boss Felt Yang Kamu Terima Secara Pos Di Pejabat

:-D

*aku suka guna perkataan "beda" selepas demam cerita "Bawang Putih Bawang Merah" **

**ok aku tipu .. aku tak pernah tengok cerita tu .. aku obses dengan segalanya Indonesia

My Adventure At The Bag Making Class

Sri is my old old friend from the primary school days (see .. we re really old now, but seriously Sri looks younger than her age). She and her sis from Pondok Craft had organized a one day class in Jitra on how to make a bag. I was thrilled and excited of course since my current interest is now all about sewing ! Its about time my skill in sewing buttons be upgraded and expanded.

I was also feeling nervous because until that particular day, it had been a very very very very long time since I last laid my hand on a sewing machine (literally, seriously). In other words I had never used a sewing machine.

I had been to Pondok Craft in Seberang Jaya on its opening day and I must say I was very impressed with the shop .... the fabrics are awesome with a few rows of beautiful American Cotton fabrics to choose from ...! They're really careful with the quality of the fabrics they sell and I also love the choice of patterns and the colors they have.

Ahh....

Ok , back to the story.

I was the first to be in the class and there were 5 Bernina sewing machines on the two tables . So you see, Bernina, is one of the branded sewing machines in the market. When you use a Bernina, especially the high end ones, it means you have arrived ! And those crazy quilters .. they would at least use the Bernina Aurora which can cost about RM7,000-00. The top notch of the brand can be traded with a new Kancil car. They also have the low range set which is Bernette, but Bernette, according to those hard cores, is not the real Bernina, as the story goes they are made in Thailand and not Switzerland.

So it's confirmed that I am crazy to dream using a Bernina Aurora or Activa (the mid range version) when the one I can afford is only a Bernette and another brand Janome

There were about 6 of us in the class including two male participants who came with their wife and I'm telling you .. those men, they really know how to sew !!! Not sure if I should post their photos here ... never mind .. just take my words for it. They are good.

This is Sri my good friend who helped me a lot and who must have sworn she should have charged me more than the others

Oh I do want to tell everything in details but it ll be so long winded and I think I ll just sum up everything in point forms:-

. I had caused problems with the machine (they let me use the Bernette). I cant blame the machines because everybody else was doing fine with theirs. Or maybe because its Bernette, but then another Bernette was fine too ... hmmmm .. such a mystery !

. I also cost them more threads than the others because I kept on making mistakes, sewing on one side when I should have sewed the other side ...

. The machine wont listen to me. ! When I wanted to go straight it would sway the other way. Another mystery to me and the teachers too.

. Everybody was already packing their bags to go home and mine was still not finished.

. The teacher had to finish it for me ... because they cant afford to wait for me .. it ll be dark if they let me do it

The Guru Besar who was fated to put up with me

And finally .... after all the trouble and sweat ( to the teachers as well) , ladies ...... heresssss 's (drum role) my bag ! :-

I love love love the bag ... it doesnt matter that I cheated when making it .. its still my bag !!! Yeahh !

All the credits must go to Sri and her Sister for being so patient with me. I would have been sent out of the class had it been other teachers !

I used the bag right away the next day and you know what ...

.
.
.
.
.
.
.

the handle came off ....

tsk .... me and my so called hand-made bag ! A typical me and my hand things ... just like everything I lay my hands on

But hey all that does not put me off ...... I am more than ready for another adventure with the PondokCraft team for their next class ....

psss ..... I had a feeling they might want me to find and bring my own machine the next time and so thats why I bought the Bernette.

:-)
